this chapter blah blah
ReplyDeleteChapter 1 made me think about the setting of the town and the people there. It did not give me any real feelings :P
ReplyDeleteOG
chapter 1- this chapter gives backround knowlegde about the characters included in the story. these characters include Jem, Scout(the narrator), Dill, Atticus, Calpurnia, and others.
ReplyDeleteChapter 2 gave me a feeling of how the children think in class. It also gave me the feeling that the teacher has an inferiority complex bacause the children made her cry at the end of the day, and that she was nervous that Scout could already read
ReplyDeleteOG
I named chapter 1, "meet the Neighbors". I named it this because Scout introduces her family, friends, and neighbors.
ReplyDelete-JZ
Chapter 1
ReplyDeleteThis chapter to me was just a bit of backround information for us the readers to read and know what is happening.
I named this chapter- The Start
T.G
chapter 1- maycomb and its occupants
ReplyDeletemy reaction to chapter 1: i was surprised that the narrator knew so much about everyone in town except for the radleys why doesn't anyone know about them
nw
Ch. 1: The Town and the People
ReplyDelete~ The chapter describes the town and the people who live in the town. Also, the chapter says how Jem and Scout met Dill.
ALS
Chapter 1 - I think that this chapter is very detailed. As Maycomb is being desribes, (town, life, people) I realzied what kind of town it is. Making a connection, it is somewhat to what like Wolcott is. Small talk, and stupid rumors about superstitions. It sounds like an old ghost-town, with tumbleweeds and saloons with drunk men roaming the streets. The chapter has a lot of imagery, which makes it easier to understand what Maycomb really is.
ReplyDeleteAS
Chapter 3 told me more about the children in the town again, like Walter Cunningham. The chapter gives me some backstory to characters that may be imnportant to characters that may be important later.
ReplyDeleteOG
chapter 2 school
ReplyDeletemy reaction to this chapter: scout gets off on the wrong foot with the new teacher by reading and writing in first grade (according to miss caroline your not supposed to do)
nw
chapter two- my reaction to this chapter is that it was a little confusing at first because it talks about new characters and how their school system works back in this time. New characters include the teacher, Miss Caroline, Walter Cunningham, and Burris Ewells. Each of these characters have their own story in a way. Burris comes from a family that is kind of slacking in ways because they only go to school a day out of the year.
ReplyDeleteDJ
My reaction to this chapter is that it was well written and told by the young girl Scout. She seems to know a lot about the neighborhood and family. Scout seems like a good source to find out information.
ReplyDeletem.m.
I named chapter 2, "That was then, this is now". I named it this because Scout was excited about starting the first grade. but, after her teacher points out ALL of the flaws in Scout and embarrasses her, Scout is not certain she wants to go back to that horrid room
ReplyDelete-JZ
chapter 3- cunningham
ReplyDeletemy reaction to this chapter: i was surprised at how jem offered to have walter over with just knowing of his family.
nw
Chapter 2
ReplyDeleteThis chapter is about scout and how she is going to school for her first time and is actally looking forward to it. Also it talks about all the different types of kids and there family backround.
I named this chapter The Learing Phase because it was all about everyone learing about eachother.
T.G
Chapter 4 gives me an eerie feeling of foresight and symbolism. The children find a tree which contains many odd objects, like pocketwatches and balls of string and gum. They also decide (relatedly) to make Boo Radley come out, which shows this is a major point in the story because it is part of the main plot.
ReplyDeleteOG
Ch.2 The Worst First Day:
ReplyDelete~Scout cant wait to go to school, she is just starting her first day of first gerade. When she goes to school and meets her new teacher she finds that she has a strong dislike for the teacher. The teacher tells scout that her fasther is not to teach her any more because he has taught her teh wrong way.
Ch. 1: the title should be : introduction to the neighborhood. This is because scout, the main character, was describing the neighborhood and the people in it. in this chapter, scout describes the radly's house, and the different types of neighborhood kids that they hang out with.
ReplyDeleteCHAPTER 5 adds an air of mystery to the story. Scout and Jem talk to their elderly neightbor about a few things, but when they ask about Boo Radley she seems frightened and tells them to mind their own buisness. This shows that many may be involved with Radley or want to protect/keep away from him for some reason.
ReplyDeleteOG
I named chapter 3, " The Poor and the Poorer". I named it this because Jem invites Walter Cunningham, a poor boy, over for lunch. Scout says and does mean things to Walter. Her day just keeps getting worse!
ReplyDelete-JZ
chapter 4- the tree
ReplyDeletemy reaction to this chapter: i was curious as to why mr. radley cemented the hole in the tree was it true that arthur radley was leaving the presents
nw
chapter three- this chpater gives more backround knowlegde for the teacher about Burris Ewells. it tells more about his family life and how he acts on a daily basis. Also, it tells about how Scout reads adn how its not proper for her age to read and that she has to go along with her class' knowledge and not her own.
ReplyDeleteDJ
ch. 2: new title: The First Day of school. this is because its the first day of school for all the neighborhood kids. scout was so excited for the first day of school, but once it was over, she had an immediate change of mind.
ReplyDeleteChapter 2
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to the chapter is that Scout is a shy girl who all she wants to do it get out and do something fun, which she thought school might be. However, she soon realizes that school isn't a fun place at all. Scout should just wait it out. Walter Cunningham should take the quarter and tell the teacher his story so she will understand.
m.m
Chapter 3
ReplyDeleteChapter three was about how jem and Scout asked walter if he would like to come and eat some food with them at their house. Then It also talks about how Miss Caroline learns about Burriss and his cooties which i thought was pretty gross. So even though these kids are white and not black they still have not the best of lives and most of them are poor even though they have the advantage.
So i discided to call this chapter The beggining.T.G
ch. 2: new title: The First Day of school. this is because its the first day of school for all the neighborhood kids. scout was so excited for the first day of school, but once it was over, she had an immediate change of mind.
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to chapter one was that it was really detailed. " There was no hurry, for there was nowhere to go, nothing to buy and no money to buy it with, nothing to see outside the boundaries of Maycomb County, but it was a time of vague optimism for some of the people." I couldn't help but relate it back to my town of Wolcott. Wolcott is an old town, like that of Maycomb County. As the author was describing the town of Maycomb County and it's people, it reminded me of a ghost town. Like one of those old western movies, where you see people out and about, everyone knows each other but it's dead outside. People have no souls, and everyone's routines look the same. Although I got a good image of what Maycomb County was like, to me it seemed like a routined life.
ReplyDelete- lb.
I named chapter 4, "what I did, & What THEY did". I named it this because Scout finds a piece of gum at the Radley's place. When Jem finds her chewing it he makes her spit it out. Then in the same spot that Scout found the gum her and Jem find 2 Indian head pennies, one from 19906 and the other from 1900. But, then Dill comes and Scout is really thrilled. Jem and Dill start being mean to Scout. Now Scout is stuck sitting on the porch with Miss Maudie. this is not the summer Scout was expecting.
ReplyDelete-JZ
Ch. 3: The Talk:
ReplyDelete~Scout has the worst first day of school and decides to tell Atticus. Atticus (her father) tells scout that she has to give the teacher a chance and not judge her before she (scout) has stepped into the teachers shoes.
AS
CHAPTER 6 adds evem more mysterious elements to the story. Jem and Dill decide to look into Boo Radley's window to try and see him. They see a shadow behind them, and hear a gunshot and flee. Jem loses his pants, and when he comes back from retrieving them he looks scared and doesnt say a word, which indicates he may be hiding something he heard or saw. This makes me think about what is so frightening about Boo Radley, or if it was him at all that frightened Jem.
ReplyDeleteOG
OG
chapter 5- seperation
ReplyDeletemy reaction to this chapter: i was surprised at how scout stopped hanging out with jem and dill in the treeh house
nw
Chapter 3
ReplyDeleteI think that Scout should wait it out and give school a few more days, because she had the wrong impression of school from the start.
m.m.
Chapter 4
ReplyDeleteThis chapter is when Jem found gum in the Radleys yard and got introuble for chewing it when back at his house. Then they had found a tire and decided to make a game out of it. Then when Jem was pushed down a hill he accidentally fell into the radleys yard and was so afraid to maove with the doubt he was gonna get introuble but instead he got out and ran to scout and was safe for now.
So this chapter was called The Game that Got Away.
Ch. 4: The Gifts:
ReplyDelete~ In the chapter tehy fin things in a tree and they take them.....but dont know who has been leaving the gifts for them. That summer they cant think of a game to play sop they act out Boo Radley....Attiucs finds out.
AS
I named chapter 5, "When no one was looking". Jem tries to shove a note in to Arthur (Boo) Radley's window. Scout and Dill are being "scouts" for him. Then Atticus, Jem and Scouts father, catches them.
ReplyDelete-JZ
ch. 3: the cunninghams. this should be the title because it describes the cunninghams, who are extremely poor. This chapter described the cunninghams and how they have no money and pay people with the foods and other things that are grown on their farm/ fields.
ReplyDeleteA.C.
chapter 6- gunshots
ReplyDeletemy reaction to this chapter: jem was fired at with a warning shot by mr. radley, next time he said he would shoot at the sky
Chapter 5
ReplyDeleteThis chapter was when Jem, Atticus ,and Scout wanted to get boo radley out of the house so they tried to get him out by putting a note in the chudders saying they had food and everything that would get him out. But as they were trying to do that they saw a mysterious shadow lerking ion the steps and were afraid and ran back into there house.
So I named this chapter The One Who Got Away.
To me this chapter was very suspensful
Ch.5: Boo Radley:
ReplyDelete~The children get a lot more information on boo Radley and then they try to give him a note to make him come out but Atticus comes out and tells them to stop bothering boo.
AS
when i read chapter 5, i can honestly say i was lost. i read it but didnt really understand it.
ReplyDeletechapter 7- dear mister
ReplyDeletemy reaction to this chapter: jem and scout write a letter to whoever leaves the presents they eat food from a stranger
nw
I named chapter 6, "The gun shot heard around the neighborhood". I named it this because Atticus talks to Jem, Scout, and Dill about the "note". Then, the 3 of them peep into the Radley's window. But, Mr. Nathan Radely tries to shoot Jem. The neighbors come out to see what happened. Luckily the 3 of them are safe by Atticus's side(s).
ReplyDelete-JZ
Chapter 6
ReplyDeleteThis chapter was when jem, scout, and Atticus were still trying to get boo Radley out so they decided to try to use a fishiong pole to get the note to the house.
I think this chapter had the same plan as the 5 chapter but they used the fishing pole
So i called this chapter Once again
Ch.6: Lost Pants and Poker
ReplyDelete~The kids say good bye to Dill and got for a walk with him. On there walk they stop at the Radleys home and try to look in the window. But when they make noise Mr. Radley comes out and trys to shoot the kids.....while trying to escape Jem looses his pants! They tell the adults that they were playing strip poker by the pond and that is how Jem lost his pants!
Ch.7 Going Back:
ReplyDelete~Jem had lost his pants while trying to get out of the Radley place....At 2 in the morning he goes back to the house to get his pants..when he gets to the house he finds the Radley home he finds his pants in a neat pile on the fence like someone was expecting him to come back for his pants!!
Ch.8: Fire and Ice:
ReplyDelete~In the story the kids never saw snow before...and it is the first time in their lives that they have ever sceen snow! That morning the kids get woken up by Atticus telling them that Mrs. Maudies home was on fire.
Ch.9: Christmas Party:
ReplyDelete~it's Christmas and all of the family gets together. They have a big dinner and a fight goes in between the children.
A.S.
I named chapter 7," The note and the cement". I name dit this because Jem and Scout decide to write a note to the kind fellow who was putting the "gifts" in the knot-hole in the tree for them. They decide to put a note in the knot-hole, but Mr Nathan Radley (Boo's brother) decides to fill the hole with cement.
ReplyDeleteCh.6: Lost Pants and Poker:
ReplyDelete~The kids say god bye to Dill and go for a walk with him.....when they are out they try to look through Boo Radley's window....they make some noise and Mr.Radley comes out and trys to shoot them!! While trying to escape Jem gets his pants stuck on the fence and ript them off...when the adults find out he has no pants on Dill tells them all that they were playing Strip poker by the pons and that is how Jem lost his pants!

My reaction to chapter two was that it introduced how the kids felt towards their teacher, Miss Caroline. It showed me how Scout wanted her first day to be worthwhile and fun, but it turned out to be embarassing not only for Scout but also for Miss Caroline.
ReplyDelete-lb.
chapter 8 long winter- since jem and scout had never seen snow i was glad they could play in it it was sad that miss maudie's house burned down

chapter 11 mrs. henry lafayette dubose
ReplyDeletehow can an old lady be so unempathetic and mean
nw
My reaction to chapter three was that I was suprised that Jem invited a Cunningham home to dinner, I would never have guessed the Finch's were friendly, even to those of the Cunninghams. I was also shocked at what Burris Ewell said to Miss Caroline. It was so out of text, I didn't even see it coming, and to see the other student's reactions to his outburst was shocking as well. Nobody cared for the teacher much in the beginning, but after Burris's outburst they consoled her when she was crying, to me it shows the progess that the students are making with the teacher, and their strong-growing relationship. Also, when reading Atticus's response to Scout about Miss Caroline causing an embarassment to Scout that day, he was right. You can't judge a person, until you've walked a day in their shoes, and crawled into their skin. Unless, your're them, then you can never really know their point of view, it really made me think.
ReplyDelete-lb.
When Scout found the gum in the tree, I had a hunch that it was from the Radley's tree, and was proven correct, when she realized where she was. And later, again Jem & Scout found two old-fashioned pennies stuffed inside an old tree hole. When they said if it was somebody's hiding place, I couldn't help but think if it was Boo Radley's and that was his own getaway place, where he could hide all his valuable possessions. And last, was what Scout was thinking to herself ,about what she had heard when she rolled onto the front of Radley's front yard, was that she heard laughing inside, it makes me wonder if Boo Radley really is in there, and not a ghost, it makes me think if he is really what the townspeople describe him as, or are they blowing it out of proportion?
ReplyDelete-lb.
My reaction to chapter five was that Scout was just like a tomboy, but when excluded by her brother and his friend Dill she longed for another friend, a girl. Because of her excommunication from the boys, she resorted to Miss Maudie's company, and from that they grew in companionship. I felt that this was important especially since Scout is telling the story. She was the only girl in her neighborhood, and she grew up always attached to her brother's ways and learning stuff by him and now Dill. She forgot what it was like to actually talk to as woman, until Miss Maudie opened up her house for her, when she got lonely. It reminds me of my neighbors sometimes, I've gotten so close to my neighbors that they're like family now, and I can talk to them for hours. It shows the love for neighbors. Not only does this story show mystery, but love and companionship between family members, strangers, friends, classmates, and neighbors. Something we all need in life.
ReplyDelete-lb.
My chapter six reaction was that Scout had no identity of who she was. She was s girl, but she was that of a tomboy. She had a right mind to do good things and stay out of trouble, but when provoked by Dill or Jem about being a girl or being scared, she gave in to the pressure, and joined them on whatever misfortune they had created. Throughout, that summer you can see the relationship between Dill and Scout grow, for he kissed her on the last night of summer, something that was cute for someone was in first grade. Although, they still teased her, Dill claims that she's the only one he'll ever love.
ReplyDelete-lb.
Chapter 8 Reaction - It must have been quite an experience for Scout and Jem to witness snow for once in their lives, it'll be something they'll never forget. I was also astonished that they were trying to make a " nigger snowman" in their words, which made me laugh because it showed me that these kids had orginality, for I had never seen any person who would make a black snowman. I was also shcoked when Miss Maudie's house went up in flames, and instead of grieving she was overjoyed at having a smaller house now where she can widen her garden, but what shocked me the most was that Boo Radley had officially came out of the house to bring a blanket to Scout for she was freezing, and unfortunately neither of the kids turned around and noticed him, all that for nothing. To me, that's the biggest part of the story, fore that was the whole meaning behind the story at trying to to make Boo Radley come out of the house, when Boo Radley came out on his own only to help a young child from suffering from the cold. It could mean that everyone's accussation about Boo Radley was wrong.
ReplyDelete- lb.
